ReplyOne of the more interesting comments that was made was that Simon wants to "upgrade" the stores at Copley Place. A laudable goal, surely, but how much more upscale can you go? Neiman Marcus wants to expand to a flagship store, but it doesnt want to close down in order to do the renovations - that is why they are pushing into the public realm.

ReplyAlex, we need to be careful not to generalize--the new luxury condos may not be the answer to the problem of insufficient housing. In Back Bay, our density has gone down because of the new construction. Many of the new high-priced units are being bought as investments or as pieds-a-terre, which doesnt help create a stable neighborhood. Would that the banks could see their way to supporting moderate income housing!

ReplyThe tower will throw two more hours of shadow onto Copley Square every day from October to March. How is this good urban design?

ReplyChris, if everyone who valued parks moved to the suburbs, it would not benefit the city's tax base. Think about why people want to live here..that's what we should capitalize on.

ReplyYou cant see it yet - you have to look at the proposals that are coming in to the BRA. Since the zoning laws are ignored, the sky is literally the limit.

It is important that our historic districts not be peppered with advertising on trash cans, bike racks, and other city installations. People come to Boston to enjoy the history, not thinly disguised billboards.
