Gun Cache Collector "Basically Under House Arrest"

Brookline Police wanted to keep Richard Becker in jail, or under GPS tracker surveillance.

The man with 36 guns is back at home, at 155 Harvard Street, after a bail review hearing last week.  Brookline Police Chief Daniel O'Leary updated the Board of Selectmen on Richard Becker's case last night, following an approved request to accept a grant. The Board asked O'Leary to speak after receiving questions about any possible connection to the Aurora shooting at the end of last week. O'Leary said that Becker had not made threats to anyone. Previously, Becker pled not guilty to the 39 gun charges brought against him. According to a statement from Boston police, the Colorado incident is believed to be an isolated one. Just a little reminder. Owning 36 guns is not a crime. Becker was issued a "Lifetime FID". That meant at the time the Firearms ID card was good for life. When the state changed this after the fact, they made failing to renew an INFRACTION. i.e. a non-criminal offense. Brookline Gun Cache Collector Held as Dangerous

Following dangerousness hearing at Brookline District Court, Richard Becker held without bail and found dangerous.

A Brookline man who faces 39 gun charges was held today following a dangerousness hearing in Brookline District Court, a Norfolk County District Attorney spokesperson said today.  Richard Becker, 55, of 181 Harvard Street, was deemed dangerous in court today by Judge Patricia Curtain. Becker pleaded not guilty to the charges at last week's arraignment. Becker was arrested by Brookline Police last week, when police found a cache of 36 guns in his apartment, as well as two silencers and several high capacity clips. On July 19, he will be before the judge again for a probable cause hearing, with the potential for an indictment. I'm surprised that Patch readers have stopped commenting on this story. It certainly garnered a lot of attention when it was initially reported. I am curious to see how this case progresses. I hope that more details will be revealed by local authorities.   more ›

Brookline Man Pleads Not Guilty to Gun Cache Charges

Richard Becker pled not guilty to 39 gun charges. Dangerousness hearing set for next week, June 20. Access granted for undisclosed medical attention.

Brookline resident Richard Becker, who faces 39 gun charges, was been ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Becker, 55, was arraigned in Brookline District Court on Thursday, June 14 and is scheduled to next appear on June 20. He pleaded not guilty during the hearing, according to his attorney. His attorney also requested Becker have access to medical treatment.  Becker was arrested on Monday, June 11 after Brookline Police  executed a search warrant at his 181 Harvard St. home, where they found 36 weapons, thousands of rounds of ammunition, silencers, and high-capacity magazines.  Police also say that he was "totally off of [their] radar," and that they had initially become aware of him after a request to check on his…
