Five Things You Need to Know: July 8

Today, it all seems to go back to the Coolidge Corner Theatre, which could be a good place to be if the weather is wet.

Weather report from the National Weather System warns of possible thunderstorms. They estimate about a 30 percent chance throughout the day, going up to a 50 percent chance in the evening. Highs predicted at about 77ºF, and lows around 66ºF. You may not need it, but it couldn't hurt to have an umbrella handy. Documentarian Werner Herzog's latest creation is a film entitled "Cave of Forgotten Dreams," which is about a series of caves containing some of the oldest art known to man. Today, it is featured in the Coolidge Corner Theatre's Box Office Babies series, in which moms and babies can go and enjoy a current Coolidge matinee in the comfort of its baby-friendly facilities. Five Things You Need to Know: June 17

The Booksmith brings kid writers, and Coolidge After Midnite brings a slasher to town.

Today is Bunker Hill Day, celebrated mostly in neighboring Suffolk County. It commemorates the famous Battle of Bunker Hill (Yes, the one that took place on Breeds Hill). The original battle took place on June 17, 1775.  If it's after 7:15 a.m. when you read this, you may need to wait until next month for Bike Fridays. With a police escort, members of the biking community in Jamaica Plain and surrounding towns and neighborhoods meet up at the Curtis Hall Community Center (20 South St, Jamaica Plain) and ride to City Hall for breakfast. The ride sets off from the community center at 7 a.m., and passes Hyde Square at 7:15 a.m. The Roland Hayes Project begins tonight at 6:30 p.m. This is an Arts recital featuring folks from our neighbors at …

Five Things You Need to Know: June 10

Spend the evening in another decade, with an '80s summer camp movie (parody) or classic rock.

With the iPhone and Android platforms becoming more widespread, and mobile internet, you may consider bringing your website to the mobile phones, and the Boston Center for Adult Education can show you How to Build a Mobile Website from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. today. The class takes place at 122 Arlington St, Boston, and will run you $39. Brookline Town Hall is more than just the center of Town government, it's also a venue for local artists to show off their works. It also periodically hosts receptions for the artists, such as tonight when Marc Goldring & Katia Wish visit their works. From 5 p.m. tonight, meet the artists. A few lucky visitors will also get a copy of Goldring's book, "Discovering the Familiar, Selected Images 2001-2008." …

Five Things You Need to Know: June 3

Adjust your attitude with an afternoon at the Golf Club, laugh or dance your cares away, or vent some rage with a slasher classic.

After a long week, it's hard to blame someone for needing an Attitude Adjustment, Fridays from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. the Brookline Golf Club hosts a weekly session with complementary cheese and crackers for their visitors.  Mike White signs books tonight at Brookline Booksmith. For those who don't know White's work, he wrote a book called "Impossibly Funky: A Cashiers Du Cinemart Collection," which gathers 15 years of funny, deep, and sometimes unexpected films. He will be signing at the Booksmith, and then head over to the Coolidge Corner Theatre for a screening of "Black Shampoo," at 11:59 p.m., and tickets are $9 ($7 for children and seniors). For a little volunteer time, or an $8-12 donation, you could Dance Friday night away at …
