Tuesday Night's Board of Selectmen meeting was more than just phone books and commendations.
Some of the big stories from the Selectmen's meeting on Tuesday night were the suggestion by fourth and fifth graders of a phone book opt-in program, and commendations for Brookline Police officers. There was a full meeting scheduled with other items for discussion. Students from the Park School's fourth and fifth grade classes presented their ideas for a phonebook opt-in program. Five students wrote letters, and read them to the Selectmen petitioning them to reduce waste by passing a bill which would provide phonebooks only to those who use them. Police Chief Daniel O'Leary and Board of Selectmen honor police officers.
When a police officer does something beyond his pledge to "serve and protect" Brookline, he may be honored with a commendation of some kind. Last night, during the regular Selectmen's meeting, the room was filled with roughly 30 colleagues, family members, and supporters for three Brookline officers receiving special commendation: Officers Sean O'Brien and Evans Alfred, and Detective Andrew Lipson.
