SHARE: Say Thanks to a Veteran with Pics and Stories

Sunday is Veterans Day. Did your son, daughter, mom, dad, or grandfather serve? Share their pic and leave a comment to say thanks

It's a very small thing to say "thank you," but it means so much. We reserve November 11 each year as our time to say thank to the veterans who served our country over the years. The day, which commemorates the armistice that ended World War I, is the rare holiday not sullied by commercialism. It's a quiet day of reflection for those who deserve all the thanks you can give, even if they refuse to ask for it. Do you have a veteran in your life? Take a moment to publicly thank them here. Just add a pic of your mom, dad, brother, sister, grandpa, etc. with a note about when they served. Or leave a comment below to say thank you. To add a photo, click the "Upload" button above.

Veterans Day: Welcome Home, Farewell and Thank You

Annual Veteran's Day ceremony bittersweet for many

For many in Brookline, Veterans Day has always been a day of pride, filled with waving flags, cheering and "thank you"s to the town's veterans for the service they give. Today, those same flags waved, people clapped and cheered, but for some, the ceremony was bittersweet. This morning at the annual Veterans Day ceremony held at the War Memorial at Town Hall, three heroes were welcomed home, and wished one farewell as he will be deployed overseas soon. Brookline firefighter Brian Cadman, an Army sergeant, recently returned from a year-long deployment in Iraq. He was joined by Brookline police officers Russell O'Neil, Andrew Amendola and Duane Danforth. O'Neil, an Army captain and Amendola, an Army sergeant and Purple Heart recipient, both …

Five Things You Need to Know Today: November 11

Today is 11/11/11, and Veterans Day. There is a ceremony at Town Hall at 11. How do you plan to spend the day.

For Veterans Day, the National Weather Service report for Brookline says about a 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m., clearing gradually over the day until the evening. Highs of 50ºF during the day, heading to 35ºF lows by night.  Putting a young, curious boy into the employ of a wizard is probably a recipe for disaster. That's what "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," a play at Puppet Showplace Theatre, today, is all about. Shows are at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and tickets cost $10.  For those celebrating Veterans Day with the town, peruse the Veterans Day Ceremony Program, which includes a proclamation by State Representative Frank Smizik and Dr. Ron Nasif as guest speaker. The ceremony starts at 11 a.m. at Brookline Town Hall. If you can't …
