Tuesday Night's Board of Selectmen meeting was more than just phone books and commendations.
Some of the big stories from the Selectmen's meeting on Tuesday night were the suggestion by fourth and fifth graders of a phone book opt-in program, and commendations for Brookline Police officers. There was a full meeting scheduled with other items for discussion. Students from the Park School's fourth and fifth grade classes presented their ideas for a phonebook opt-in program. Five students wrote letters, and read them to the Selectmen petitioning them to reduce waste by passing a bill which would provide phonebooks only to those who use them. Fourth and fifth graders suggest an Opt-in registry to decrease number of unused phone books.
During last night's Selectmen's meeting, a number of students from the Park School presented their vision for a greener Brookline in the form of an opt-in program to eliminate unused phone books. With the help of their teacher Ted Wells, five students from Brookline presented letters to the Board of Selectmen. According to a survey of 118 Brookline residents performed by the students, 97% of respondants say they use their phone book "rarely" to "never," meaning between zero and 12 times per year. @MoonBeamWatcher. FYI...many people that come to the Farmer's Market (please note that I have NO association with it), come on foot.
