2-Alarm Fire at 205 Kent Street

A basement fire broke out on Kent Street.

Brookline Fire Department responded to reports of a 2-alarm fire at 205 Kentwood Manor on Kent Street at around 3 p.m.. Boston, Cambridge and Brookline fire engines responded. “The fire started in the bathroom of the basement unit,” Brookline Fire Chief Ron Nelson said. “It went up to the second floor. It took a little while to find it in the walls, but the guys got it knocked down quickly.” The cause of the fire is still unknown. Nelson estimated that the cost of damage is about $150,000. No injuries were reported. Residents of the 6 to 10 unit apartment building were taken to the Lawrence School where CERT teams prepared shelter for them.

Brookline firefighters are battling a blaze at 205 Kent Street.

Firefighters quickly knocked down a two-alarm fire on Kent Street Thursday. The fire reportedly started in the basement and worked its way up the building. By 3:20 p.m., the fire was largely knocked down, though firefighters continues to search the building. Aside from the fire itself, first responders are dealing with the intense cold. As of 3:20 p.m. it was 20 degrees in Broookline, which felt like 4 degrees due to the wind chill factor.
