Today, in an effort to make homes more energy efficient while helping residents buy local, a coalition of Brookline business and community leaders celebrate the launch of the “Weatherize Brookline” contest. The town-sponsored Green Homes Brookline energy efficiency program is teaming up with the Brookline Local First independent business initiative to give residents a new incentive to weatherize their homes and buy local. Residents living in a one to four unit home or building who sign up for a no-cost home energy assessment by March 1st of next year and complete it by April will be entered into a chance to win up to $500 in gift cards to local Brookline businesses. With this contest, the more people who participate, the more will win. …

Green Homes Brookline looks to incorporate Sagewell Thermal Imaging into the program's brand.
As the fall season starts, and temperatures begin to drop, do you know how much heat is escaping your home? The Board of Selectmen met with a representative from Sagewell, Inc., a thermal imaging company whose work may illuminate that question, and the work of the Green Homes Brookline partnership. "The concept is very simple: to give homeowners a visual assessment of the energy leaking out of the envelope of their home," explained Tim D'Souza, a representative from Sagewell, inc. The program sends a vehicle with thermal imaging equipment out onto public roads and scans houses as it passes, a process which can take three or four days. Green Homes Brookline announces its 600th energy assessment, and announces a new deadline for applying for the program's special offers.
It's 6 p.m. on Sunday. Do you know where your energy is? May 1 is the new deadline for anyone who wants to get the current special offer on free home energy assessment through the Green Homes Brookline initiative. The program offers up to $3,500 for insulation and other energy efficiency upgrades. Friday, they announced the 600th assessment, to be done at the Naples Road home of Rebecca Albrecht. "Through Green Homes Brookline, we spent less on weatherizing our home and lowered our heating bills. I urge everyone who can to take advantage of it," said Albrecht in a press release.
