The Fiscal Cliff: What Deal Would You Cut?

Massachusetts Democrats in Congress want to avoid cuts in benefits as part of any deal, but proposals such as raising the eligibility age for Medicare are still on the table. What would you do?

As Congress negotiates a deal to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff" on Jan. 1, Massachusetts' congressional representatives have voiced their opposition to any cuts in benefits such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the Boston Globe reports.  However, there are proposals still on the table that would change those benefit programs, including linking Social Security benefits to a more conservative inflation index that would slightly reduce annual increases, or raising the eligibility age for Medicare from 65 to 67. The Globe reported that while the Bay State's legislators were united against changes to Social Security, there's some wiggle room on Medicare. Joe Kennedy III Greets Voters on First Day of Campaign

Brookline resident Joeseph Kennedy III launched his campaign for the Fourth Congressional District today and made his first campaign stop in Newton.

The Newton Centre MBTA platform was a little more crowded than usual this morning. Dozens of Joe Kennedy III supporters surrounded the station with campaign signs Thursday as the newly-minted Fourth District candidate made his rounds shaking hands and meeting local elected officials. Just over a month after announcing an exploratory committee for the seat, Kennedy officially announced his candidacy this morning in a video statement posted on his campaign website.  “I believe this country was founded on a simple idea: that every person deserves to be treated fairly, by each other and by their government,” Kennedy said in his statement.  At the MBTA station this morning, Kennedy met with commuters and stopped to chat with State Rep.
