The AMC cinema in Chestnut Hill has officially closed up shop, making way for a new Showcase Super Lux slated to move in just a few doors down. The five-screen Chestnut Hill movie theatre closed its doors on Thursday, Jan. 17, according to representatives from WS Development, the owner and operator of The Street (formerly the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center). A sign had been posted on the theatre's marquee announcing its closure, but has since been taken down. Although he did not comment on the future of the theatre building, WS Development Corporate Marking Director David Fleming told Newton Patch this week that the AMC space will be included in the continued redevelopment of the shopping center. The property is reportedly going to be sold for $50 million.
The Boston Herald reports this morning that the ailing Atrium Mall is under agreement to be sold for $50 million and will eventually be turned into medical offices. Sourcing a person "close to the deal" the Herald says Needham-based Bullfinch Cos. is buying the property and the deal should close later this month. For more information, check out the story in the Boston Herald. The Simon-owned Atrium Mall, which opened in 1989, has recently dropped to roughly 20 percent capacity, with ten retail stores left in the mall and just two restaurants. The Chestnut Hill Cheesecake Factory location will update their menus to include drink prices, the Boston Herald reports.
For some diners, looking at the bill can be a harrowing experience, especially if the menu doesn't include prices for certain items--such as beverages. Because of a threatened lawsuit, the Herald reports that the Chestnut Hill Cheesecake Factory is updating their menus to include prices on drink selections. Newton resident Alan DeCew told the Herald, “It’s basically a problem that’s been creeping in over the last several years that everybody’s experienced... Restaurants will tell you what they have, and you have to ask them what it costs, and of course nobody wants to do that because it’s socially unacceptable.” The Cheesecake Factory's new menus should arrive next month. However, the restaurant chain's menus are not the only enigmatic …
