AMC Chestnut Hill Closed; New Showcase Super Lux on the Way

The Chestnut Hill City Sports has also closed, as it prepares for a move to the new building next door.

The AMC cinema in Chestnut Hill has officially closed up shop, making way for a new Showcase Super Lux slated to move in just a few doors down.  The five-screen Chestnut Hill movie theatre closed its doors on Thursday, Jan. 17, according to representatives from WS Development, the owner and operator of The Street (formerly the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center). A sign had been posted on the theatre's marquee announcing its closure, but has since been taken down.  Although he did not comment on the future of the theatre building, WS Development Corporate Marking Director David Fleming told Newton Patch this week that the AMC space will be included in the continued redevelopment of the shopping center. Chestnut Hill Shopping Center Announces Name Change

The new name will reflect the shopping center's renovations and additions as well as its walkability.

Updated 3:56 p.m. More than 60 years after it first opened off Route 9 in Newton, the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center is changing its name.  The retail center will now be known as "The Street," according to a press release issued yesterday. The new name is the latest step in a renovation of the shopping center, which is owned and managed by WS Development. Del Frisco's Grille Soon to Serve Up Steaks in Chestnut Hill

Steak house with locations in Texas, and in Las Vegas and New York, planning to open in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center.

Steaks from Del Frisco Grille will be available to the "sophisticated palate of Chestnut Hill," according to a press release issued by the shopping center's owner, WS Development, who announced today that the national steakhouse--with locations in New York, Las Vegas and Houston--signed a lease for a Chestnut Hill Shopping Center space. "We've been focused on finding the right mix of high-quality food operators to serve this dense, high-income market," said Mark Roberts, SVP of Leasing at WS Development. Athletic Apparel Company to Join Retail Lineup at Chestnut Hill Shopping Center

The latest retail announcement adds to a retail list including Shake Shack, Pinkberry, Pottery Barn, Bernard's, Sports Club/LA, City Sports and a Cinema de Lux, which will all open in the new shopping center in 2013.

The high-end, "yoga-inspired" lululemon athletica has recently signed a lease to join the lineup of retail shops at the revamped Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. According to a press release issued by the shopping center's owner, WS Development, the athletic apparel company will have a 3,100-square-foot store on the ground floor of the new 115,000-square-foot building currently being built on the former Macy's site. Pottery Barn, Treat Cupcake Bar to Open in Chestnut Hill Shopping Center

WS Development, the firm that owns the shopping center, announced three new businesses will be moving in to the new space on the former Macy's site.

Pottery Barn, Polarn O. Pyret and Treat Cupcake Bar will soon be joining the lineup at the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. According to a press release issued by the shopping center's owner, WS Development, the three new retailers will open in spring 2013 as part of a new building currently being constructed on the former Macy's site.  “We’re delighted to bring Pottery Barn, Polarn O. Foundation Poured at Chestnut Hill Shopping Center

The Chestnut Hill Shopping Center now has a basement and parts of the foundation, sections were poured yesterday.

The Chestnut Hill Shopping Center is now on solid footing: the basement and part of the foundation of the site have been poured.  WS Development's Corporate Marketing Director David Fleming sent an e-mail saying, that about 10,000 cubic yards of concrete were poured yesterday, to create the basement and foundation of the 115,000 square-foot building that will eventually house Sports Club/LA and a National Amusements Cinema De Lux. Sports Club/LA is expected to open in winter, and the movie theatre in the late winter or early spring. The former site of the Rugged Bear will eventually house the Shake Shack and Pinkberry. Crews worked through the afternoon, and more than 90 trucks came to deliver the concrete needed to make the foundation.  …

Pinkberry, Bernard's and Cinema de Luxe coming to Chestnut Hill

Chestnut Hill Shopping Center announced the National Amusements Cinema will be a Cinema de Luxe, teased two other stores coming to the Shopping Center.

Pinkberry will soon be joining the line-up of stores in the revamped Chestnut Hill Shopping Center, joining Shake Shack, which announced it was coming to Chestnut Hill last week, Sports Club/LA and a National Amusements theatre. In an email sent Friday afternoon, WS Development Director of Corporate Marketing David Fleming told Patch that the frozen yogurt shop is coming in addition to Bernard's restaurant and a Cinema de Luxe. The new tenants will be located in a new, 115,000-square-foot building that will be built on the former Macy's site. Pinkberry, a high-end frozen yogurt shop from the West Coast, also has locations in Cambridge and Boston's Back Bay. Bernard's is currently located in the Mall at Chestnut Hill. Shake Shack to Open in Chestnut Hill Shopping Center

The New York City-based burger joint will open in the space formerly occupied by Rugged Bear.

Following news earlier this year that the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center will soon be adding a new movie theatre and upscale fitness center, another big name has announced its plans to move into the Route 9 retail destination. Shake Shack, a New York City-based burger and custard restaurant, plans to move into the 3,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Rugged Bear, the Boston Globe reported today. VIDEO: Tear it Down: Demolition Begins at Chestnut Hill Shopping Center

Site of former Macy's in Chestnut Hill demolished to make way for LA Sports Club and National Amusements theatre.

Cranes began tearing down the former Macy's building on Route 9 shortly after 10 a.m. today.  The former Chestnut Hill Macy's, which closed a little over a year ago, will be replaced with an athletic store and a cinema, according to WS Development. WS Development Director of Corporate Marketing David Fleming announced that the space will be filled with a new National Amusements theatre, and Sports Club/LA. The store is expected to open in winter, and the theatre in the late winter or early spring.  He explained new theatre would result in the closing of the AMC Chestnut Hill, which is a few doors down in the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center.
