State House Recognizes a Brookline Teacher Keeping Kids Green
Dexter and Southfield Schoolteacher Sonya McKnight recognized for her work with the environmental club.
A Brookline teacher was honored for her work in teaching kids about the environment and energy conservation. Sonya McKnight of the Dexter & Southfield School's Environmental Club was recognized by the governor for their program entitled "Reducing Carbon Footprint through Recycling and Energy Conservation." A ceremony at the State House yesterday recognized McKnight and 23 other programs from schools and non-profits in the commonwealth. The Massachusetts Environmental Trust provided cash prizes ranging from $100 to $400 to fund additional environmental work at the schools. This is a great story! I hope other teachers begin following a similar path to Sonya with their students. It's a wise idea to begin teaching the youth now about energy conservation and the benefits of "going green." The earlier we begin the better off they will be.
