Five Things you Need to Know Today

Five Things You Need to Know Today: May 2

Five things for Brookline, May 2.

1. Slight chance of drizzles for most of the day, The National Weather Service expects it to dry up toward 1 p.m. Otherwise, it will be a mostly cloudy day and evening. The high should hit 56ºF and a low around 46ºF.  2. We heard last night that Patch Columnist Shanna Giora-Gorfajn lead a successful write-in campaign for Town Meeting Member, and that fellow columnist Michael Burstein was re-elected. At the time of writing, the results were not yet posted on the Town Clerk's page, but we will have full results when they are available.  3. The Mass. Department of Transportation has named today "Massachusetts Walk and Bike to School Day." As the name suggests, students are encouraged to skip the car ride or bus, and head to school on foot or …

The "Free PSAT test" is free, as the title of the event page would suggest. If you read the event page (blue text means there is a link to more information), you'll also see that the event is being run by Kaplan, (who I imagine will also try and sign people up for their SAT classes). It isn't a town-run event, so there is no reason to require Brookline residence...? I didn't take my SAT in my …   more ›

Election Day 2012: What's on the Ballot? [POLL]

Today is election day for Brookline, with a town-wide seat open for election, as well as a selection of Town Meeting Members seeking re-election against newcomers.

While a larger election is coming up in November, today Brookline goes to the polls to pick a new Library Trustee, and a handful of Town Meeting Members for upcoming terms.  Patch is here to give you all of the voting info you'll need in one place: When the time comes, go to the check-in table at your polling place and tell the poll worker your street, house number and then name (in that order). They will hand you a ballot and provide you with instructions. If you're not sure which precinct you are in, check "Where do I vote, MA" and input your address, or consult the town's 2012 Precinct Index. Not sure where your poll location is? Mouseover the map to the right. With the exception of one, the town-wide races are not contested. That …

Who's Running for Brookline Town Offices in 2012?

A look at the preliminary ballot for the May 1, 2012 election in Brookline, Ma

Brookline looks for one new Library Trustee to serve in 2012.  There is one week left until Brookline's upcoming town election, and one contested town-wide race: One library trustee seat is to be filled by either Puja Mehta or Kristen Uekermann. We will bring you interviews with the candidates in that race later in the week. Those who wish to write a Letter to the Editor supporting any of the candidates below, should e-mail them to editor Grahame Turner by Wednesday night. We will not run Letters to the Editor on the week of the election, but will publish those we recieve before the deadline. When the time comes, go to the check-in table at your polling place and tell the poll worker your street, house number and then name (in that order…

Yes, true! Thanks for adding that note. I'm working on the full ballot at the moment. Wanted to focus on the town-wide elections first. Formatting the full ballot is taking a while... (There are a LOT of names on it).   more ›
