Mike's Barber Shop a Brookline Village Classic

Where do you get your haircut in Brookline?

The classic scent of Barbicide, Talc powder and other hair tonics complimented with the sound of shears, the buzz of the razor and big brass band from the radio fills the room in Mike’s Barbershop at 225 Washington Street. Owner Mike Aronov has owned Mike’s Barber Shop for seven years after working at Capital Barber Shop in downtown. “This shop has been here 80 years,” Arnov said. “I have been cutting hair for 35 years. Since high school.” Aronov started cutting hair in the Ukraine, and came to America 19 years ago after the Communists took control. “I remember my country. Philip's TV Moving in with Village Green Renewal

Owners hope to expand some services and tweak others, while two long-standing Brookline Village businesses merge.

  Two local businesses are coming together to be a one-stop shop for repairing everything from rocking chairs to iPods. Village Green Renewal, run by Seth Barrett, is now hosting the man at the helm of Philip's TV & Stereo, Allen MacPherson, better known as "Red"--and will be expanding some of their services with MacPherson's expertise. The two sat down with Patch to talk about their merging busineses.  Village Green already repairs just about anything from chairs to lamps to bikes--and now includes televisions and other electronics. Pomodoro: Winning Food, Missing Manners

Dishes delight at this Brookline Village, but the service doesn’t measure up

Hidden in Brookline Village is Pomodoro, a little restaurant that you’d swear was meant for the North End.  Perhaps that’s because the original Pomodoro is, in fact, on Hanover Street in the North End, a tiny place with eight tables and amazing Italian food. The Brookline Village location is bigger and more chic, with exposed brick, gentle earth tones, and a slick bar anchoring the center of the table space.  Jazz standards croon gently in the background. One can picture herself at that swanky bar, sipping a glass of Italian red or a cocktail like the Italian margarita, featuring housemade infused tequila.
