Patch Clips: Two New Brookline Police Officers Sworn In

There are two new officers in the Brookline Police Department.

Brookline Police Chief Daniel O'Leary and Town Clerk Pat Ward swore in two new police officers in front of the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, February 26.  Brian Bridges and Oscar Santos began their entrance exams two years ago and underwent rigorous training for 21 weeks in a barracks in New Braintree. The two cadets graduated from the Academy on February 15. Officers Bridges and Santos will begin their training assignments, shadowing two officers around town, on Thursday. Santos, 28, from Honduras went to Chelsea High School. Santos was working for an IT company previous to his acceptance into the Academy. Newton Man Charged with Exposing Himself in T.J. Maxx

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not imply convictions.

On February 1, Officers responded to a report of a man exposing himself in the women’s shoes section of the T.J. Maxx at 525 Harvard Street at 4:50 p.m.. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the Loss Prevention Worker, who stated there was a man in the store “following women around with his penis out.” The Loss Prevention Employee provided a description of the suspect. The officer headed over to the shoes section and saw with a man wearing a black jacket and an orange and white hat browsing the area that fit the description of the suspect as provided by Dispatch. When the suspect noticed the officer, he quickly made his way towards the exit, but officers were able to stop him. The suspect provided an international student card as his …

Three BU Students Robbed in Separate Campus Incidents - One at Gunpoint

Boston University Police are urging anyone to call 911 or the BUPD at 617-353-2121 with tips or to report suspicious behavior.

Three separate incidents around the Boston University campus involved students being robbed late Friday night, including one at gunpoint. Brookline, Boston, and Boston University Police are investigating the three incidents that happened late Friday and two early Saturday, on or near BU's campus. Brookline and Boston University Police have said they are increasing patrols in the area after the robberies. A female BU student, with two others were allegedly robbed at gunpoint around 12:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul and Thatcher streets in Brookline, according to BU Today. The victim was not injured.  A second incident involved another BU student being robbed of his cell phone in an unarmed incident in an adjacent alley to Shaw’s supermarket …

Three Arrested in Freeman Street Pot Bust

A BU student, and a Mass. College of Pharmacy Student among those arrested by Brookline Police last week.

Several pounds of marijuana sent by FedEx are now in police custody, as are stacks of cash and three young men. During a 5-hour sting operation, police say packages containing bags of pot were sent to fictional names but picked up by real people. Police say they have arrested Jesse Pomponio, a Boston University student; Alexander Zhang, a Mass College of Pharmacy student, and Trevor Powell, all aged 24, and charged them with possession with intent to distribute.  Police are looking into a fourth suspect, and hope he will turn himself in. Amid the items seized from the apartment, 10 to 15 pounds of marijuana, about $117,000 in cash, and two pre-paid cell phones. Brookline Police Place First in Law Enforcement Challenge

During 2011, Brookline Police were apparently number one in traffic safety statewide.  According to a press release from the Highway Safety Division (of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security), the Brookline Police Department was awarded first place in the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge (MLEC). Which earned them about $25,000 in donated equipment from vendors All Traffic Solutions. The winners were announced at an event Friday at the Devens Common Center, attended by Secretary of Public Safety and Security Mary Elizabeth Heffernan and Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Timothy Alben.   The Department was entered into the national Law Enforcement Challenge, after which the MLEC is modeled.  The goal of …

Details Emerge in Sunday Riverway Stabbing

The BPD issued a statement on today's stabbing in the Fens.

Sunday's Riverway stabbing came at the tail end of a robbery, according to a statement by the Boston Police. A 49-year-old man was stabbed in an armed robbery attempt near Longwood Avenue and the Riverway on Sunday afternoon. According to a Boston Police statement, officers found the victim shortly after fielding calls about the attack at 12:24 p.m.  "On arrival, officers located the 49 year old, male victim, who stated he was sitting on the logs listening to music and feeding the ducks when he was approached by the suspect," wrote police on the BPDnews.com blog. Police Investigating a Armed Robbery on Winchester Street

Police say that a woman was robbed yesterday morning by a man with a gun. Anyone with information is requested to contact Brookline police.

A woman walking down Winchester Street early on the morning of July 5 was robbed by a man at gunpoint, and Brookline police are looking for any information which may be of use. According to a press release, the victim told police that she was walking on Winchester Street, and was stopped by a woman in a car who asked for directions. During that conversation, she saw a man walk past, who later flashed a gun and demanded her money, and took keys and other items out of her shoulder bag.  The man was described as a middle-aged black man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. He was carrying a silver handgun.  After the victim was robbed, the woman in the car drove by again and stopped to check on the victim. Police are not certain whether …

Newton Street Accident Sends Three to Hospital

A car hit a tree early Sunday morning near the intersection of Newton and South Streets.

Three people, including a 2-year-old, were sent to the hospital early Sunday morning after the car they were riding in hit a tree on Newton Street.  According to reports, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Newton Street and South Street. Two sets of the Jaws of Life were called to the scene to assist with the trapped passengers, according to reports from Twitter users @NEFireBuff and @brianjdamico.
