Chief Dan O'Leary awarded this year's officer of the year award.
Officer Morgan Lee was awarded the Officer of the Year at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on Tuesday evening. Lee graduated from Brookline High School and is a Marine Corps Veteran. Lee joined the Brookline Police in 2008. “When I talk to his supervisor, he is always working,” Chief O’Leary said. Chief O’Leary told the board that Officer Lee had helped in dealing with Brookline’s most common crime: Car break-ins. The man who he helped arrest for nine separate crimes in Brookline had evidence of home break-ins in Boston and car break-ins in both Boston and Brookline.

A Dorchester Man was arrested Friday night after police said they found a Taser and an open bottle of alcohol in his car. At about 2:20 a.m. on May 10,an unmarked Brookline Police Officer observed two vehicles turn right onto Pleasant Street from Commonwealth Avenue and head right on Freeman Street and park before Craig Place. One of the cars had a rejection sticker. At 3:10 a.m., the officer reportedly saw several people get into the vehicle and head down Babcock Street from Freeman Street. The officer pulled the vehicle over and told the driver that he pulled him over because of the sticker. Today the department received a call from a citizen reporting suspicious items found in a storage unit they had bought at auction. At approximately 9:40 AM units responded to 5 Station Street. Officers responded along with Brookline Fire. Initial reports where there were bomb making items, Boston Bomb Squad was notified. Based upon further investigation of the items, it was determined to be items considered to be part of drug manufacturing. The bomb squad turned the scene over to a Hazmat team that was called in. The storage unit was cleared out. At no time were any of the surrounding business asked to close although the street was closed for a short period of time to accommodate the emergency vehicles. A woman was charged with trespassing and taking her ex-boyfriends car when he pulled over to answer nature’s call. Brookline Police responded to a report of a person trespassing in the lobby of a building on Kent Street at 9:20 p.m. on April 22. Officers arrived and spoke to the woman, who officers said smelled of alcohol and her speech was slurred. According to police, the woman began screaming while they spoke to the victim. Officers reportedly told the woman to calm down several times. The victim told police that they thought the woman had stolen the car she arrived in. Officers went outside and found the vehicle, which had fresh damage on the front driver’s side and bumper. A check with the Brookline dispatch revealed that the vehicle …

A Medford man was charged with stealing packages from the lobby of a building on Beacon Street. Brookline Police were patrolling the area of Beacon Street at 5:38 p.m. on April 22. There was a “be on the lookout” report for a white male in a black jacket with a black scaly cap that was going through packages on Beacon Street. The witness told police that a man she did not recognize entered the lobby of her building and began tearing at the corners of packages. The suspect was seen heading inbound on Beacon Street on the outbound side of the street. Brookline Police is working with the Boston Police Department and the MBTA after the events at the Boston Marathon.
Brookline Police have stepped up their presence in town following the bombing at the Boston Marathon. With no suspect or motive in the attack and three dead and over 100 injured, Brookline Police will increase their patrols and increase cooperation with the Boston Police. “As a follow-up to our response to yesterday's tragic incident, officers are providing special attention and extra patrols to religious institutions, as well as public and private schools, which are in session this week,” Lt. A homeless was arrested after he was found sleeping on a living couch on Park Street. Brookline Police responded to a breaking and entering on Park Street on March 14 at 5:46 a.m. Upon arrival, officers spoke to two men, who responded in the front of the U-shaped complex. One of the men identified themselves as the resident, who found the unknown man sleeping on his couch in his living room. The resident told the police that he went to sleep at about 11 p.m. on March 13 and woke up at 5:15 a.m. on March 14. When the resident walked into the living room, he noticed a white male asleep on his couch. The resident spoke with the unknown male in a calm manner to avoid any confrontation. Brookline Police Officers conducted a drug surveillance operation in the area of Pearl Street and Village Way on the evening of March 10. Officers had received information about drug activity in the area and were monitoring from an undisclosed location. At 11:23 p.m., officers observed a yellow Mercury Sable pull up in front of a house on Pearl Street. Officers observed three people in the vehicle. The driver exited the car and went into 68 Village Way. The two passengers remained in the vehicle with the engine running. Officers reported that the driver exited the house in approximately two minutes and got back into the car.
