PHOTOS: Parks Out of Parking Spaces in Coolidge Corner

Several parking spaces in Brookline transform for a day into small parks for Brookline Second foray into Park(ing) Day.

A few of Brookline's parking spaces turned into extensions of Brookline's parks last week, as part of an international art installation project.  An art gallery in San Francisco started Park(ing) Day in 2005, when they took up a parking spot in the city, and built a smal park in the space. Since then, it has spread from Australia to Austria. Sept. 21 was Brookline's 2nd Park(ing) Day, in part sponsored by the Town of Brookline Department of Public Works.  Three small parks cropped up in Coolidge Corner, one each outside of the Upper Crust, Otto Pizza and J.P. Licks. As Harvard Street traffic rolled past mere feet from where people played chess, listened to a live piano, and worked on some crafts.  The three mini-parks were staffed and …

Get Out

Get Out: Brookline Day and Parking in the Park

Brookline Day is coming to Larz Anderson Park, and the park comes to the parking lot. Not to mention essays, puppets, and naked girls.

When/Where: Starting at 8 a.m. Friday, on Harvard Street. between Green and Babcock Streets. Why: Several metered parking spaces in Coolidge Corner will temporarily transform into small parks. Activities and refreshments, as well as sitting in a small space of Green on an otherwise busy street, will make Park(ing) day memorable--although it will mean a little less open parking in the area.  How much: Free When/Where: Puppet Showplace Theatre, 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Why: Three Little Pigs build three little houses, but when the Big Bad Wolf comes to get them, whose house will stay standing? You know the story, but get ready to meet the zany cast of the Wonderspark Puppets' show this weekend.  How much: $12. When/Where: 11:59 …
