The Brookline Parent

A Brookline Day Adventure

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

Every Sunday is a challenge for our family. As we’ve mentioned before, the days of us lazily spending our Sundays at home, perhaps vegging out in front of the television, are long gone. We have a responsibility now, to Muffin and Squeaker, to give them a stimulating Sunday every week. This past Sunday, we were trying to decide what to do for the day to amuse them. One of the families with whom we have had a number of play dates this summer said they were not available because they were attending Brookline Day at Larz Anderson Park. We hadn't been thinking of going, due to us not having a car and Larz Anderson not being particularly accessible by public transit. However, the town was running shuttle buses from various locations, including …

What Were Your Favorite Things at Brookline Day?

On Sept. 23, the town celebrated Brookline Day--throngs of Brookline folk stopped by to celebrate their part of the world.

Dozens of local organizations, hundreds of townsfolk, and a hot air balloon were at Brookline Day yesterday.  Brookline celebrated its community pride, town spirit and interest by inviting a number of town businesses and organizations, three of the town's food trucks, and several town departments. Patch cameras went out to Larz Anderson Park to capture some of the sights …

Get Out

Get Out: Brookline Day and Parking in the Park

Activities and refreshments, as well as sitting in a small space of Green on an otherwise busy street, will make Park(ing) day memorable--although it will mean a little less open parking in the area.  How much: Free When/Where: Puppet Showplace Theatre, 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.  Why: Three Little Pigs build three little houses, but when the Big Bad Wolf comes to get them, whose house will stay standing? You know the story, but get ready to meet the zany cast of the Wonderspark Puppets' show this weekend.  How much: $12. When/Where: 11:59 …

Celebrate Brookline on Brookline Day!

A town celebration will start on September 23.

Mark Sept. 23 on your calendars for the Recreation Department's celebration of Brookline Day.  Larz Anderson Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 23. Recreation Director Lisa Paradis explained more about the event to the Board of Selectmen at last night's meeting.  "We felt Brookline should have it because of where Brookline is: people care so much about this town," Paradis explained. She added that some new members of town staff, some of whom had been involved in similar events in other towns, wanted to bring a celebration of Brookline to Brookline. Planned events include: Paradis said that with the "enormous amount of work" that goes into planning an event like this, she is not certain whether it will be an annual event.  She added, "I …
