Cleanup Organizer Sees a Future of Smaller Footprints

Former high school teacher Pat Conaway sees real hope in the young people who help him clean the area's trails, waterways and roadways.

Pat Conaway admits he is "kind of a nut" about the environment, so when he retired from teaching in 2008, it didn't take long for him to find a number of productive ways to spend his time.   "I wanted to get people fired up about the environment, to try to encourage citizens to get involved locally," said Conaway, founder of Big Hearts, Little Feet.  A nearly constant presence on area roadways, trails and waterways, Conaway can be found leading groups of volunteers, including many students, to pick up trash, improve trails and remove invasive species. From beer cans to soda and coffee cups, trash tossed by the roadside washes into local rivers and, if left alone, eventually finds its way to the ocean, where scientists have found plastic …

AMBER ALERT: Police Find Missing Boston Child in Cambridge, Suspect Still At Large

Police are searching for the boy, a woman and 36-year-old Jonathan Moore, believed to be driving at red 1997 Toyota Camry, license plate 634 RH4.

A 13-year-old Boston teenager believed abducted by his father was found by Cambridge police Tuesday night.  Massachusetts State Police issued an Amber Alert for 13-year-old Jonathan Moore, whom they believe was abducted by his father Tuesday night. According to the alert, police were searching for 36-year-old Jonathan Moore senior, the child and a woman. Police are looking for a red 1997 Toyota Camry, license plate 634 RH4. The suspected abductor, Moore senior, is black, 36 years old, six feet, three inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. There was no description of Moore senior's clothing. According to the alert, Moore senior is considered armed and dangerous. While the younger Moore is safe with Cambridge Police, there is no word …

Americans across the country are reacting with shock to the devastation caused by a 2-mile wide Tornado in Oklahoma. Dozens have died, and President Obama has declared the path of the tornado a major disaster area. If you would like to help, you can do so from your computer or mobile device right now. Police: Man Charged with Having a Switchblade, Marijuana

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges listed do not indicate convictions.

A Dorchester man was arrested for carrying a switchblade amoung other charges.  Brookline Police saw a white Honda Accord traveling eastbound on Washington Street with an invalid inspection sticker and pulled them over. The officer spoke to the driver and told him why he was pulled over. The officer ran the driver’s information and found that the driver had a revoked license. The officer noticed the smell of unburned marijuana, and asked if there was any marijuana in the car. The officer noticed a metal clip sticking out of the driver’s pocket and asked if he had any weapons. The driver told the officer that he was carrying a knife. The officer determined that it was a switchblade. The officer arrested Luisa Vega, 27, of 32 Maple Street, …

AAA Offices To Provide EZ-Pass Transponders

Ahead of the Memorial Day travel season, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has joined with AAA to make EZ-Pass transponders more readily available.

With the summer travel season coming up, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation wants drivers to cut back on cash and link up to the EZ-Pass system.  MassDOT has joined AAA of Southern New England to make EZ-Pass transponders available at over 15 AAA offices, according to a press statement Thursday. . According to the statement, there are still over 155,000 daily cash transactions on toll roads throughout Massachusetts. With the state heading toward a cashless toll system beginning with the removal of cash tollbooths on the Tobin Bridge in early 2014, state transportation officials are encouraging motorists to get ahead of the changes by enrolling in the EZ-Pass program early. “The availability of transponders at AAA branches is …
