This small restaurant has lots of personality. The intimate dining room features an open kitchen where fresh sushi and sashimi dishes are made to order for all to see. The unagi with ponzu sauce comes highly recommended, as do the affordable lunch specials.

This restaurant and Shiki are the two of many Brookline Japanese restaurants that are most like restaurants in Japan, where Japanese does not equal sushi with elaborate sauces, but includes a wide variety of well-made delicious dishes raw and cooked. This place is more casual and rough around the edges than Shiki, and reminds me of many family-run restaurants in Japan where I've lived many years. Some locals may find it a bit messy, with uncleared tables and so on - you can see reviews on this elsewhere. But the food is really good. I have nothing against Korean or Chinese run Japanese restaurants because they often have a good variety of dishes, and I hear that you could argue reasonably that Koreans invented sushi. But Shiki and Yokohama are the most like Japanese food you'd have in Japan today. Enjoy!
