This Tuesday: Choose A Mayor to Build Boston Stronger -- Marty Walsh

As many of you know, we are in the midst of a spirited campaign to elect the next Mayor of Boston. As a former State Senator and currently as President of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, I have worked with many of the candidates on issues that affect our community. Knowing the field of candidates well, I am asking you to give one of them special consideration. I am asking you to join me in supporting the candidate who has spent his entire life as a tireless advocate for working people: State Representative Marty Walsh.

Marty Walsh has been an independent voice in the State House for over 16 years. He has been a leader in securing good jobs with good wages, on equal rights, and in the fight against substance abuse, among many other priorities. When I was in the legislature, Marty was my ally and a tireless voice for workers’ concerns on all major issues. Having worked his way through Boston College and eventually becoming the General Agent for the Boston Building Trades, Representative Walsh has shown he has the leadership and managerial skills necessary to be an effective mayor for our city.

As a city, we are facing serious questions about what we want Boston to look like. Whoever wins this race will determine what values will shape our city for years to come. We need a leader who will invest in economic growth from the middle class out and ensure that we build an economy that works for all workers. That means insuring that every worker has access to a living wage job and paid sick days, among other things. Marty has already shown with his legacy that his highest priority will be Boston’s working people and I have no question that he will continue to advocate for us as mayor.

It was an honor to serve our community as an elected official for over seventeen years. I want the next mayor of Boston to serve our neighborhoods with the same love and dedication that we all share. Representative Marty Walsh is up to the challenge. I hope you will join me in supporting Marty in the Preliminary Election for Mayor of Boston on Tuesday, September 24th.
