Are you a "smother mother"?

During the stage of adolescences, a teenage boy will certainly feel the need to find his own way and become more independent. But mothers are sometimes challenged by giving their sons more space to grow. This can be scary and frustrating for some moms.

But let’s be clear, your son needs you most at this time of his life and how you approach him will make a huge difference.

I think we all know smothering isn’t a way to go about things. Right?

Let’s define smothering – “Covering someone’s nose and mouth so that they suffocate.”

Whoa! Try not to do that.

I think it’s obvious not to suffocate your teenage boy but to allow him to breathe naturally, and for parents to respond in a way that is empowering for growth and development.

I think if mothers do smother their son they might prevent him from learning the life skills and lessons needed to think for himself.
