Muddy River Dulcimer Festival
Brookline Music School hosts the Muddy River Dulcimer Festival on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28, 2012. The festival includes three folk concerts, two of which are free, an instrument petting zoo and nine workshops for beginner and experienced players.
Friday, April 27, 8:00pm, Lorraine and Bennett Hammond in concert - free!
Featuring a lively assortment of traditional American instruments and songs. Enjoy five-string banjo, Appalachian dulcimer, Celtic harp, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and a vast repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs, tunes & ballads.

Saturday, April 28, 1:00-5:00pm Appalachian Dulcimer Workshops
Learn to play Appalachian dulcimer, even if you have never played an instrument before. We’ll loan you a dulcimer for the afternoon workshops. Already play dulcimer? Sharpen your skills, and be challenged and inspired by offerings for intermediate and advance players. Workshops include Playing Cross-Key, Off to a Great Start, Wonderful Waltzes, Tunes You’ll Want to Take Home, Guided Jam for Pickers and Singers, Quill and Noter and more.

Full afternoon workshop ticket $20.00 ($10 for seniors and those under 18). Advance registration strongly advised; workshop space is limited.

Saturday, April 28, 1:30pm Free Family Folk Concert and Instrument Petting Zoo
Maine folk musician Pam Weeks joins Brookline’s own Lorraine Hammond in a performance for kids of all ages. Meet the dulcimer, banjo, fiddle and folk harp in this joyful session. Audience participation will be encouraged with dulcimers for loan during the concert and families may sample instruments at the instrument petting zoo that follows.

$18 general admission, $12 Festival ticketholders and FSSGB Members. Co-sponsored by the Brookline Music School and the Folk Song Society of Greater Boston.
