MBTA Bus Stations to Receive Countdown Clocks

The clocks will notify riders when the next bus on each route will leave.

By Matt Perkins/Patch

Bus stops within the MBTA system will soon get countdown clocks that notify riders when the next bus on each route will leave, according to Boston.com.

The MBTA announced the move to install the countdown clocks last week, with the signs expected to be operational by the summer, according to the report.

Using real-time bus tracking data, the signs will provide information about when each route serving that particular station is expected to depart. The devices will feature visual and audio messages, according to the report.

Each sign costs about $50,000, funded through federal stimulus money, that covers the display sign, as well as hardware, software, installation, maintenance and a push-button activated sound system, according to the report.
