Massachusetts Unemployment Rate Drops to 5.6%
The unemployment rate has dropped 1.4% since May of last year.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported Thursday that Massachusetts’ total unemployment rate in May dropped to 5.6%, 0.4% from April’s rate. The national unemployment rate in May was 6.3%.
Massachusetts added 9,100 jobs in May and has added a net of 49,700 jobs since May 2013. Currently, Massachusetts jobs exceed both the April 2008 highpoint and the February 2001 pre-recession job level, BLS reported.
