If Brookline is out of Norfolk Cty., does that raise or lower my property taxes? I have a residence on Hammond Street in Chestnut Hill.

That's a really good question. At the moment, I am not certain, would have to confirm with some sources. My understanding is that, for now, the town isn't out yet. Officials must first petition the Commonwealth to get out. When (if?) the town does get out, it will no longer pay the $700,000 to the county government. Don't quote me on this, but my guess is that, at that point, the $700k savings will go into other town projects, other line items on the budget. So, (again my guess )is that property taxes will remain the same. Does that help? As I said, there are details I need to confirm first.

If Brrokline is allowed to leave Norfolk County and if the Town would lower the tax rate rather than spend the $700,000+, yes property taxes could be reduced. Kudos to Fred Lebow and the Town Meeting Members who voted to leave Norfold County.

So if Brookline does indeed decide to leave Norfolk county, what will it's new status become? Newly added town to Suffolk County? Middlesex County? The Town and County of Brookline? Just curious, thanks!
