Two Men Charged with Breaking into a Car on Shawmut Avenue

Boston Police said two men were seen allegedly attempting to start a Chevy parked on Shawmut.

Two men were arrested on Monday night for allegedly breaking into a car and attempting to steal it, according to the Boston Police Department. 

According to police, officers responded to Shawmut Avenue at 12:15 a.m. on Monday night for a report that a male was breaking into cars on Shawmut Avenue. Police also received word that two males had broken into a Chevy and tried to start the vehicle. When police arrived, they saw two males fleeing on foot on Union Park. While the police had one suspect in custody, the second one fled on foot.

The second suspect fled until a Boston Police officer was able to tackle him, causing both men to fall to the ground. One of the men threw a screwdriver as the police apprehended him. Both suspects were positively identified by witnesses and were charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and possession of burglarious tools.

The passenger side door and the ignition were both damaged as a result of the attempted theft.
