UPDATE: Three Alarm Fire Destroys 71 Spooner Road

A three alarm fire gutted 71 Spooner Road at about 9:15 p.m. on Friday, July 26.

Firefighters struck three alarms, calling for assistance from all town companies and outside services. The home was vacant and there are no reported injuries at this time.

The house, owned by 81 Spooner Road, LLC,  had been at the center of a zoning dispute from 2005, when The Zoning Board revoked the building permits after they determined that the home was 1,000 square feet bigger than allowed by the bylaws. In 2008, the Supreme Judicial Court upheld the Land Court ruling in favor of the town, limiting the size and bulk of homes.

The home was vacant at the time of the fire.

As of 12:20 p.m. of Saturday, July 27, the cause of the fire and the cost of damaged had not been determined.

Correction: Initial reports indicated that the address of the fire was 81 Spooner Road. The corrected address is 71 Spooner Road. "The property is owned by 81 Spooner Road LLC; that name reflects the fact that the land on which the vacant house was built was originally part of the property at 81 Spooner Road," Selectman Dick Benka wrote in an email to Brookline Patch.

Brookline Patch will have more on this as more information is released.
