Routine Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted for Beating Cop

Mark Flaherty, 27, of 17 Leonard Dr., Southborough, was taken into custody Thursday.

Brookline police on Thursday arrested a man who was wanted for assault and battery on a police officer.

Mark Flaherty, 27, of 17 Leonard Dr., Southborough, was taken into custody after his vehicle was pulled over in the area of Harvard Street at about 12:23 a.m. for not having an inspection.

Officers said Flaherty initially lied about his identity. A records search found that Flaherty's license was revoked and he had a warrant dating back to Aug. 8 out of Wrentham District Court for two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.

Flaherty, who was sitting in the back of the car, was also not wearing a seatbelt and cited, police said.
