When the news began to spread on Wednesday night that two Boston Firefighters had died in the line of duty, the city did what it always does in times of darkness and sadness — it pulled together.
From new mayor Marty Walsh to the Boston Archdiocese, support and prayers were sent to the families of Boston Fire Lt. Ed Walsh and Firefighter Mike Kennedy. But it didn’t end there.
Memorials sprang up at the Back Bay firehouse where both men worked. People went to the station to pay their respects. As the men were brought to the funeral home, residents lined the streets in solemn respect. Facebook and Twitter were full of regular people offering their support, talking about the danger of firefighting, and mourning together.
