Newton Man Arrested for Open Container, O.U.I.

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police. Charges do not imply conviction.

January 9  

1:37 a.m.: While patrolling in an unmarked cruiser, an officer observed a driver parked on the northbound side of Harvard Street. The driver made several U-turns over the course of five to ten minutes, prompting the officer to pull the driver over for a marked lane violation. The officer asked for the driver’s information. The driver did not have a license, but provided his birthday and his name. The officer observed the driver seeming to struggle with what he was putting down, and did not know his social security. When no information came back, the officer arrested the man. While in handcuffs, he told officers his name was Jermaine Grant. Officers found two small bags of marijuana on him after a search. Grant, 29, of 88 Seldon Street, Dorchester, was charged with operating after a revocation, possession of marijuana – civil violation, marked lane violation and driving without a license.

5:55 a.m.: Officers arrested Angela Claiborne, 51, of 52 Village Way, Brookline, and charged her with warrants for larceny over $250, uttering false checks and forgery.   11:50 p.m.: An officer observed a dark colored Toyota Corolla traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. After using the radar gun, the officer tracked the Corolla traveling at 52 mph in a 40 mph zone on Boylston Street. When the officer pulled the Corolla over, the driver gave the officer his name and social security number. The officer ran the driver’s information and found that the license was suspended. Officers arrested Scot McDevitt, 22, of 43 Waltham Street, Lexington, and charged him with speeding and operating after a suspension.

January 10  

9:15 a.m.: While conducting traffic enforcement at the intersection of Cypress Street and Brighton Road, an officer observed a green Kia Sephia blocking the box with a sign clearly reading “Don’t Block the Box.” When the light changed, the officer followed the Kia and pulled them over. The officer asked for the driver’s license and registration. The driver gave the officer the registration, but didn’t have a driver’s license. After running the driver’s information, the officer found that there was a warrant for her arrest out of Somerville District Court. Officers charged Auxiliadora Sousa, 53, of 17 Dartmouth Street, Somerville, with gridlock violation, operating without a license, warrant – failure to appear.

9:28 a.m.: Officers arrested Patrick Gouch, 29, of 164 Main Street, Everett, on a warrant out of Brookline District Court.  

11:13 a.m.: An officer observed a 2007 Volvo SUV traveling on Washington Street and ran a query of the license plate. The R.M.V. query indicated that the registered owner had a suspended license. The officer pulled the vehicle over on Washington Street and Pearl Street. Another query showed that there was a warrant out for the driver’s arrest out of the Framingham District Court. Ibn Salhudin, 49, of 352 Concord Street, Framingham, was arrested and charged with operating after suspension, a warrant and operating after a revocation.  

11:40 a.m.: While conducting traffic enforcement near Washington Street and Beacon Street, an officer observed a dark colored pickup truck heading south on Washington Street at a high rate of speed. The radar read 35 mph and the officer pulled the driver over. The driver produced the vehicle’s registration and an ID from El Salvador as well as an El Salvadorian passport. The officer told the man that he needed a Massachusetts license. Officers arrested Jose Ayala of 24 Proctor Ave., Revere, and charged him with operating without a license and speeding.  

January 11

12:35 a.m.: An officer could smell marijuana coming from a grey Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound on Harvard Street. The officer ran the plates and found that the driver had a warrant out for their arrest. The officer pulled the car over at the intersection of Harvard Street and Longwood Avenue. The officer arrested Sang Yoon, 27, of 128 Day Street, Jamaica Plain and charged him with two counts of probation violation, the warrant, and issued Yoon a Town By-Law Ticket for possession of marijuana.  

1:35 p.m.: Officers observed a speeding sedan heading westbound on Beacon Street. The officer observed the driver driving at 50 mph in a 30 mph zone for about half of a mile before pulling the vehicle over. The officer could smell alcohol on the driver’s breath and asked if he would take a field sobriety test. After the test, the officer placed the driver into custody for operating under the influence. During a search of the car, officers found a flask in the passenger compartment. Mohammed Alkhadim, 27, of 933 Walnut Street, Newton, was arrested and charged with O.U.I. – Liquor, speeding, failure to stay in marked lanes, operating a motor vehicle without a license and open container.  

5:05 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of shoplifting at the T.J. Maxx at 525 Harvard Street. According to Loss Prevention Officers, a man was seen taking various items off of the shelves and placing them into a plastic bag. The man headed for the door, but officers stopped him and asked him to stay in their office until the police arrived. The man took several pairs of briefs and socks, totaling at $177.88. The man had arrived on a bicycle, which he could not tell officers how he came to own. Frederick Deminico, 30, of Boston was charged with shoplifting.
