More Men Busted in Craigslist Sex Stings

Brookline Police continue to net arrests with phony ads online.

Two more men have been caught up in the phony Craigslist ad trap set up by the Brookline Police Department.

Michael Grady, 48, of North Quincy, was arrested at 11:54 a.m. on Feb. 22, and charged with enticement of a child, annoying and accosting, possession of a Class A substance (Morphine), and attempted to commit a crime (statutory rape).

[Redacted], of the South End in Boston, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. on Feb. 22, is also facing charges.

On Feb. 12, a sergeant with the Brookline Police Department posted a note in the casual encounters section of Craiglist entitled “Trying this” and using the pseudonym “April May.” A suspect, Grady, interacted with detectives, and then, agreed to meet one he believed was a girl.

The two reportedly agreed to meet near the inbound side of the Brookline Village T stop. At the time, the detective reported that there were a number of people waiting for the train. But once the train came to the stop and people boarded, Grady allegedly waited behind. Detectives introduced themselves to him and he was placed under arrested.

On Feb. 22, a sergeant posted a note on Craigslist using the fictitious name of Paul Phillips pretending to be “a young male.” A man, later identified as [Redacted], began communicating with the detective via email and text and later, allegedly agreed to meet.

Other detectives were briefed about the case and were strategically assigned around the meeting location. At about 5:30 p.m., police were expecting [Redacted] to meet the young male with crystal meth.

A 2006 Ford Escape reportedly entered the parking lot of the location driving slow with police believing that the driver wasn’t familiar with the surroundings since he was constantly turning his head and looking around. The vehicle exited the parking lot and another detective initiated a traffic stop.

[Redacted] was later arrested and drugs were allegedly confiscated from him and sent to the state lab for testing. Other evidence taken from him included a cellphone, laptop, thong underwear, condoms, and lubricants.
