Man Sped Through Red Light, Charged with OUI

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. Charges do not imply conviction.

January 3

5:10 p.m.: While traveling west on Beacon Street at the intersection Washington Street, where the signal turned red. A loud engine accelerated and a large pick-up truck flew through the red light. At this point, the officer pursued the driver and turned on the lights. The driver did not pull over, so the officer hit the siren. The driver finally pulled over at Beacon Street and Williston Road, about two blocks away from the origin of the stop.

When the officer asked for the driver’s registration, the driver handed the officer several pieces of paper that were not the registration. Finally, the officer had to point out which piece of paper was the registration. At this point, the officer could smell an odor of alcohol and the driver said that he had not been drinking.

Taking into account that the driver was fumbling for his registration, his eyes were bloodshot/glossy, the odor of alcohol and the driving behavior, the officer decided that the driver was intoxicated and called in a field sobriety test. After the test, officers arrested Ilya Koshcheyev, 48, of 1461 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, and charged him with OUI-alcohol and failing to stop for a red light.
