Man ‘Jumped’ for Nikes on Aspinwall Avenue

Brookline Police are looking for three men: two white or light-skinned, one black; wallet, backpack also stolen.

The detective division of the Brookline Police Department is currently investigating a mugging incident on Aspinwall Avenue near Harvard Street at around 8 p.m. last night, according to a police alert.

At just before 9 p.m., police were called to Village Way to speak with a woman who stated that her foster son came home without any shoes on. When asked what happened, the male said he was “jumped” by three other males. 

The male reported that he was leaving a center on Aspinwall Avenue and walked toward the 66 bus stop on Harvard Street. While passing the driveway Walgreens, “three male individuals approached him.” At first, he couldn’t decipher or hear what was being said to him, but then, one of the men said, “Give me your sh*t,” according to the report. The male kept walking but soon “was surrounded and forced to the ground,” according to the report.

Two of the men held him down while the other removed his Nike Air Force One sneakers and socks from his persons. The men also took his backpack and wallet, which contained $3 and an MBTA Charley card.

The men then fled toward St. Paul Street.

The men were described as in their 20s, dressed in dark clothing. One was black wearing a black hoodie; the other two were white or light-skinned. The victim stated he had never seen the men before.

The victim's legs were sore but he didn’t sustain any visible injuries, according to police, and refused transportation to the hospital.

About 20 minutes after the incident timeframe, an officer was performing community policing in the area of Washington Street and River Road and recalled seeing three men in dark clothing in the area, walking behind a gas station on Washington Street. They continued towards Huntington Avenue but are not known to have been involved in the incident, according to police.
