Fire Marshal: Incendiary Device Used in 71 Spooner Road Fire

The Massachusetts Fire Marshall believe that an incendiary device was used to start the fire which destroyed 71 Spooner Road on Friday evening.

According the Boston Globe, State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said that an incendiary device was the cause of the fire, but did not comment further given the ongoing investigation by the State Police and the Brookline Police.

The house, owned by 81 Spooner Road, LLC, had been at the center of a zoning dispute from 2005, when The Zoning Board revoked the building permits after they determined that the home was 1,000 square feet bigger than allowed by the bylaws. In 2008, the Supreme Judicial Court upheld the Land Court ruling in favor of the town, limiting the size and bulk of homes.
