Fire Marshal: Incendiary Device Used in 71 Spooner Road Blaze

An incendiary device was used in 71 Spooner Road fire.

State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Brookline Fire Chief Paul D. Ford and Brookline Police Chief Danny O’Leary announced on Monday, July 29 that the cause of the fire at 71 Spooner Road on the evening of Friday, July 26 was "incendiary in nature."

The fire remains under investigation and no further details are available.

The house, owned by 81 Spooner Road, LLC, had been at the center of a zoning dispute from 2005, when The Zoning Board revoked the building permits after they determined that the home was 1,000 square feet bigger than allowed by the bylaws. In 2008, the Supreme Judicial Court upheld the Land Court ruling in favor of the town, limiting the size and bulk of homes.
