Dive Teams Finish Tuesday Search for Missing Student; Will Return Wednesday

After a four hour search, Massachusetts State Police dive team packed up for the day after searching the Chestnut Hill Reservoir for evidence of .  

According to State Police Spokesman David Procopio, the State Police Underwater Recovery Unit did not find any significant evidence in a second straight day of searching. The crews will be back tomorrow to do another search with a side-scan sonar device.

"Our sincerest hope is that we will be able to bring Franco Garcia home safely to his family and his college community," State Police Spokesman David Procopio said in a statement.

 Procopio said. Multiple divers rotated in and out of the 38-degree water during the search effort.

Garcia, 21, is a student and West Newton resident who has been missing for nearly a week. He was last seen at Mary Ann's bar in Brighton, just a short walk from the reservoir. 

Tomorrow's efforts will be "one last attempt" to locate evidence in the reservoir relating to Garcia's disappearance. The State Police team will do a second side-scan sonar search, holding the device at a different angle from what was done during yesterday's search. The sonar gives police a picture of the bottom of the reservoir.

Today, the State Police air wing was back with a helicopter searching the area, Procopio said. This is the third straight day the air wing has helped in the search, but nothing of significance was found during those searches.

In addition, several troopers from the State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) scanned the wooded area around the reservoir. Several Boston police officers and recruits from the Boston Police Academy joined those troopers, Procopio said

A K-9 unit was also on scene searching the perimeter. K-9 units also searched the area for roughly two hours Monday evening, Procopio said, and search results came up negative. 

. The group of roughly 40 volunteers split up into several search teams to scan the streets and wooded spots near Cleveland Circle. That search also turned up negative. 

A Facebook group has been created to post updates on the search for Garcia. Friends have also started a Twitter account (@FindFranco) that hopes to spread the word of Garcia's disappearance. 

Rachele Reis and Amelia Zani, two of Garcia's friends and classmates, are also asking anyone who may have taken photos at Mary Ann's Tuesday night -- regardless of whether they know if Garcia is in them -- to send them to findfrancobc@gmail.com. Photos will remain private unless Garcia is spotted. 

As for additional searches organized by friends and family, Reis said she was not sure if anything was planned.
