Brookline Police Place First in Law Enforcement Challenge

During 2011, Brookline Police were apparently number one in traffic safety statewide. 

According to a press release from the Highway Safety Division (of the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security), the was awarded first place in the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge (MLEC). Which earned them about $25,000 in donated equipment from vendors All Traffic Solutions.

The winners were announced at an event Friday at the Devens Common Center, attended by Secretary of Public Safety and Security Mary Elizabeth Heffernan and Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Timothy Alben.  

The Department was entered into the national Law Enforcement Challenge, after which the MLEC is modeled. 

The goal of the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge is to stimulate traffic enforcement activities around the Commonwealth, and the event is a joint venture by the Massachusetts and the International Chiefs of Police Associations and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Brookline Police Department Honored at Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge

The Brookline Police Department was one of 23 local police departments honored at the annual Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge (MLEC) Awards Ceremony along with the Massachusetts State Police for excellence in traffic safety efforts during calendar year 2011 to reduce motor vehicle related fatalities, injuries, and economic losses to the Commonwealth.

In recognition of their efforts, the Brookline Police Department was awarded first place and selected equipment from All Traffic Solutions from the nearly $25,000 in donated prizes by vendors. 

The event was held at the Devens Common Center on Friday, August 24, 2012, and was attended by the Secretary of Public Safety and Security Mary Elizabeth Heffernan, Superintendent of the State Police Colonel Timothy Alben, the President of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and federal, state and community officials. The Massachusetts Law Enforcement Challenge is an innovative program designed to stimulate traffic law enforcement activities.  It is supported by the Massachusetts and the International Chiefs of Police Associations and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

MLEC awards were based on traffic safety activities such as internal policies, officer training, effective patrolling and public information projects during the 2011 calendar year. The awards ceremony was a great success and a wonderful way to acknowledge the hard work our Municipal and State Police Departments do every day to help keep the Commonwealth roadways safe.
