Brookline Police Cruisers Equipped with New, Life-Saving Tool
A new tool will help victims of opioid overdoses.
Brookline Police cruisers were recently equipped with a new tool, Nasal Naloxone, that will help victims of opioid overdoses, BPD announced.
Nasal Naloxone is a nasal spray that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. The spray is a 2-milliliter dose, with 1-milliliter administered to each nostril at a time.
This comes in response to Governor Patrick’s declaration of opiate abuse as a Public Health Emergency in March 2014. Following this announcement, Brookline Police implemented the program after working with Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s Office, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Fallon Ambulance Service, and the Mass Department of Public Health.

Officers were trained to recognize the signs of an overdose from opiate drugs, such as heroin, and trained on how to administer Naloxone.
