Brookline Man Wanted on Rape, Prostitution Charges

Laurence Bloom, 53, allegedly brought special-needs woman to Chelsea to have sex with multiple men.

Brookline detectives are looking for a Brookline man who allegedly brought a special-needs woman to Chelsea to have sex with as many as 10 men over a 24-hour period in exchange for drugs.

Laurence Bloom, 53, is wanted on charges of rape, conspiracy to derive support from the earnings of a prostitute and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act. An alleged accomplice, 58-year-old Raphael Santiago of Chelsea, is also wanted by police.

According to police reports, a 38-year-old Brookline woman with special needs told officers she was taken to Santiago's apartment in Chelsea late last month and made to have sex with several men while Bloom collected payment.

The woman said she had started smoking crack cocaine with Bloom at his apartment in 90 Longwood Ave., a Brookline Housing Authority property, early this year and often had sex with him in exchange for more drugs.

On June 24, Bloom and Gonzalez, who also goes by "Primo," allegedly took the woman from the apartment to Chelsea to get "better quality" crack, but instead brought five to 10 men by Gonzalez's apartment to have intercourse and oral sex with the woman over the course of the following day. Throughout the ordeal, Gonzalez allegedly kept watch over the woman "to make sure she did everything right," according to police reports.

The victim was reported missing when she did not return home to her assisted living apartment in Brookline on June 25, but was reportedly found walking home with Bloom and Gonzalez the following day.

On July 15 and 16, Police searched Blooms's Longwood Avenue apartment and Gonzalez's apartment in Chelsea but did not locate either man. Police reportedly found a pipe, razor blades and other evidence of drug use in Bloom's apartment.

Warrants have been issued for both men's arrest.
