Brookline Man Accused of Smothering Dog to Death Has 'History of Mental Illness'

A Brookline man accused of smothering his pet dog to death has a "history of mental illness," according to his attorney.

William Kinsella, 24, of Risley Road, was charged with animal cruelty this week. He was arraigned Thursday.

FOX 25 reported he was ordered held in custody until a competency hearing.

Police said they launched an investigation after receiving information from the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his home without incident, police said.
