UPDATED: Brookline High, Police and Fire Score $5000 for Benefit

Students and faculty at Brookline High school teamed up with the Brookline Fire and Police Departments for a fundraiser to benefit the Beacon Street Fire victims.

[Update: The roughly 200 people watching the games and participating in the raffles helped raise nearly $5000 for the Beacon Street Fire Fund, Health Department Director Alan Balsam confirmed on Tuesday. 1:31 p.m., Feb. 21]

One thing the Brookline Police Department learned very quickly Friday night is the Brookline High School basketball team is deadly from the three-point line.

The Police Department faced off against Brookline High School men’s basketball team in a charity basketball game to benefit the victims of the Brookline fire on January sixteenth.

Brookline High defeated the Brookline PD, but the game was neck-and-neck until the final buzzer.

While the score was close, the game was a friendly one. The mood of the players and the fans was positive, as everyone was excited to support a worthy cause.

After the Brookline High victory, there was a raffle sponsored by the Brookline Credit Union to raise money for the Beacon Street Fire Fund. First prize was box seats to a Red Sox game; other prizes included restaurant gift certificates and memberships to local clubs.

At 7 p.m. that night, another battle took place on the basketball court. The Brookline High faculty took on the Brookline Fire Department, resulting in a high-paced and aggressive matchup.

The Brookline High faculty, like the student’s, defeated the Fire Department in an exciting game. The red-hot uniforms of the Firemen were not enough to spark a victory against the Brookline faculty.

Great positive civic story, well written. Wish I could have attended.
