Brookline Gun Cache Collector Held as Dangerous

A Brookline man was held today following a dangerousness hearing in Brookline District Court, a Norfolk County District Attorney spokesperson said today. 

Richard Becker, 55, of 181 Harvard Street, was deemed dangerous in court today by Judge Patricia Curtain. Becker  at last week's arraignment.

Becker was , when police found a cache of 36 guns in his apartment, as well as two silencers and several high capacity clips.

On July 19, he will be before the judge again for a probable cause hearing, with the potential for an indictment. The DA's office noted that some of the charges carry state prison sentences, so the case may also go before superior court. 

Becker legally owned firearms, until his license expired in the late '90s. Of the 36 guns he was found with, Brookline Police say that only less than half were once legally owned by Becker. Officials are also tracking down how the remaining guns came into his possession. 

Police initially became aware of Becker after a well-being check at his 181 Harvard Street address. They then learned he had two outstanding warrants for his arrest for missed jury duty at Quincy district court. They also learned of the expired license, but waited to serve a search warrant until he left his apartment on June 11. 

Charges, where mentioned, do not indicate conviction. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
