Brookline, Boston and BU Police Open Tips Line for Armed Robberies

After fourth armed robbery report, Boston University Police are also offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Photos and videos of suspects in two of the armed robberies were released, and a tips line has been opened for information: 1-800-494-TIPS or text "TIP" to 27463 (CRIME).

After last night's reported armed robbery attempt of a BU student, Brookline, Boston and Boston University police held a press conference at the Brookline Public Safety building. BUPD also announced that they are offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest of suspects.

Chief Daniel O'Leary gave more details on the four cases of recent robberies. They say that the suspects have shown a handgun in all four of the cases, which the suspects are holding near their hip when making demands of their victims.

The victims in all four cases have been Boston University students, one of whom had recently graduated. O'Leary told reporters that the area in which the robberies have taken place has a large population of students, and is a couple of streets away from the BU Campus.

"We do have crime consistent with a big city," BU Police Chief Thomas Robbins said, "but not cases with a pattern like this."

Police showed a short video captured on Oct. 5, which shows three suspects in the armed robbery on that day. One subject is described as a lighter-skinned black male in his teens, about 5'11" tall with short black hair and braces on his teeth, wearing new Air Jordans and a red sweatshirt and silver and black earrings. One of the other subjects, who had the black handgun used in the robbery, was slightl shorter--about 5'10" tall, with a backpack and a grey sweatshirt with a number of it.

Police are not certain what the number is, but they know one of the two digits is a 6.

The Boston University community reacted to the most recent attempted robbery on Twitter, which the Daily Free Press captured on a Storify piece last night.

BU is holding a town hall meeting about the incidents, BU Today reports.
