Brookline Arrest Log: Anti-Smoking Dirt Thrower Arrested

The following arrest report is based on reports for Sept 7 through 9. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday, weekend reports each Monday, and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

• Possession of a class A drug – Travis Albano, 29, of Brookline. Officers were investigating reports of narcotic activity at 1064 Beacon Street. Police saw a man with a backpack enter the apartment, greeted by the apartment owner who is known to the officers. Through a window, police were able to see two men snorting substances. After a while, the visitor left the apartment and got into his vehicle,  Police returned to 1064 Beacon Street to serve a search warrant for the premises at about 1:30 a.m. and spoke with Albano, and report finding items that looked like heroin, pills, a scale and money. The Drug Enforcement Agency sent a clandestine lab team to examine the scene. Albano was arrestd and charged with possession of heroin, manufacturing an illegal substance, and possession with intent to distribute. 

• Disorderly person – 21-year-old Matthew McDonald, Mashpee resident. At about 6:45 p.m., police responded to a disturbance in the 25 Washington Street area. A caller reported there was a shoeless man in a vest yelling at passing cars. When police caught up to him, they report he was digging in the dirt with his hands, and picking up clods of earth, then walking toward a group of people and throwing the dirt at them, yelling things like "smoking is dangerous" and "you shouldn't smoke, it could kill you." When officers tried to get his identity from him, he threw his wallet into the street. Officers then placed him in handcuffs, which he struggled against. Witnesses say he had thrown his shirt into the street, and was throwing handfuls of dirt at the nearby bridge, causing traffic to stop, and pulling out signs and other items in the area. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, malicious damage of prpoerty and resisting arrest. He was then transported to the hospital for evaluation. Police spoke with his mother, who says he had left Mashpee at 9 a.m., and was heading to Woonsocket, R.I., and she does not know how he got to the Boston-area.
