Beacon Street Shaw's Market Robbed, Lexus Carjacked in Brookline [Update]

Brookline Police have activated the cameras following a robbery at the Shaw's Market at 1717 Beacon Street.

[Update: Police say they have found the vehicle, abandoned, and are now searching the area around the Brookline High School area, as well as interviewing witnesses.

Green line operators, Transit Police have been notified, instructed to pay special attention in the Cleveland Circle area. Transit PD are sending a K9 unit. 4:32 p.m.]

[Update #2: Brookline Police have released a photo of the suspect and sent an e-mail with information from the scene of the crime. At this time, police are not sure how much money he got away with. See the photo to the right, statement below. 6:01 p.m.]

Scanners report that the Star Market on Beacon Street was robbed by a suspect who passed a note, but did not show a weapon. The suspect then went outside and car-jacked a silver Lexus SUV, license plate 5KX 280.

The suspect was described as a tanned white man in his 50s, 5'10" tall with a scruffy beard and a beer belly. He was last seen driving the wrong way up University Road in the SUV.

Police have activated the traffic cameras, and are currently searching the area between Washington Square, Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village. 

The stolen SUV is registered to a Salisbury Road resident.

At approximately 4:10 PM today at Star Market at 1717 Beacon, a subject came in and committed a robbery. No weapon shown. Unknown at this time what if anything he got away with. Officers still on scene, details of the robbery are still coming in. When he left the store he ran out to Beacon St. where he got into a motor vehicle in traffic.

The operator was able to jump out and get away unharmed. The suspect then got behind the wheel and drove off. The car was recovered a short distance away at the Brookline Hills T. Stop on Tappen street. We have a picture form the stores camera system please feel free to use this.
