ARRESTS: Quincy Man Charged With Stealing Toys

Sheb Shumar, 22, of Brookline, was arrested a 2:16 a.m. on Feb. 7, on a warrant. An officer was on St. Paul Street and ran a check on a Ford Explorer traveling in in front of the cruiser with an expired inspection sticker. The check revealed a default warrant out of Chelsea District Court on a failure to appear charge from Feb. 6, and the SUV was pulled over. Other units arrived to assist. The warrant charges were for operating after a suspension and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Shumar was arrested. He was also cited for failing to submit a motor vehicle for inspection.

James Cox, 45, of Quincy, was arrested at 12:24 p.m. on Feb. 8, and charged with larceny over $200/shoplifting. An officer was in Coolidge Corner due to the recent bank robberies in the area and saw Cox, who the officer knew from previous encounters. Cox, the officer alleged, appeared to be hiding something under his sweatshirt. He reportedly walked into a children’s store on Harvard Street and about 20 minutes later, observed Cox carry two bags of toys out of the store. Cox allegedly went to a green Ford Explorer and placed the bags in the back seat and then, closed the vehicle and walked with the empty bags back into the store. Another unit was called to the area to assist the officers. The officers spoke with the driver of the Ford Explorer who said he had given his friend “James” a ride to Brookline and admitted he didn’t know him that well. They ran a check on the driver and he had no active warrants. The officers took the items back to the store and spoke with the store manager and other employees and asked if Cox had paid for the items. None of them remembered Cox approaching them to buy items. An employee took one of the officers out back to watch video security footage and alleged that Cox came in with nothing and left with two bags full of toys. Cox was arrested outside of the store. He allegedly denied stealing the toys, valued at about $271. Cox allegedly became “belligerent and uncooperative” and had to be double handcuffed to the booking cell bar.

Emmanuel Borma, 37, of Brockton, was arrested at 4:47 p.m. on Feb. 11, and charged with operating a motor vehicle without a proper license. While driving on Harvard Street, an officer came across a red sedan stuck in and blocking traffic coming from School Street. A pedestrian flagged the officer down and pointed to the vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over near 74 Harvard Street. The driver, Borma, handed over a license and registration but the license was not from Massachusetts and information was not in the computer that he was licensed to drive. Dispatch later confirmed Borma did not have an active license and he was arrested. He was also cited for blocking an intersection.

Julie Cullinane, 34, of Walpole, was arrested at 10:19 a.m. on Feb. 13, on an unlicensed operation charge. An officer was called to an accident at St. Paul and Freeman streets between a Ford Explorer and a Nissan Maxima. Cullinane allegedly told the officer that she rear-ended the other vehicle while approaching it at a red light. Dispatch revealed that Cullinane’s license was revoked due to a payment default and she was arrested.
