ARRESTS: Newton Man Allegedly Disrobes After OUI Arrest

The following information was supplied by the Brookline Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

John Kavanagh, 32, of Newton, was arrested at 3:50 a.m. on Feb. 14, and charged with OUI liquor, third offense and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension. He was also cited for impeding the free flow of traffic, a town bylaw. While patrolling Beacon Street, an officer saw a black Mercury Moutaineer stopped in the left travel lane speaking with pedestrians, impeding the flow of traffic with already dangerous road conditions due to snow. The officer pulled the vehicle over to the left and initiated a motor vehicle stop. The driver, Kavanagh, reportedly didn’t have a license and was driving his roommate’s car. Kavanagh reportedly questioned being stopped and said the pedestrians flagged him down. “During this conversation I observed the operator’s speech to be slurred,” the officer alleged. “His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and I could detect a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his breath." Kavanagh, however, allegedly denied drinking. Other officers were called to the scene to assist. A check of Kavanagh’s license yielded a suspended status. He agreed to field sobriety tests and was later arrested. During processing, according to the arrest report, police alleged that Kavanagh “began to disrobe for no apparent reason, and stripped down to his boxer shorts while in the presence of a female officer.” Police stated he remained that way through process and alleged that he was “uncooperative, belligerent, yelling at officers” during his breathalyzer test.

Tracey Knox, 40, of Brookline, was arrested at 3:53 a.m. on Feb. 15, and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. An officer was sent to a Beacon Street apartment to assist with a medical call where a woman had “severe facial injuries.” The officer spoke to Knox who allegedly stated that the two had been out with friends at a hotel in Cambridge and while waiting for a cab, she fell on some icy patches on the sidewalk and banged her head twice. At the apartment, she reportedly lost her temper and began throwing things off the walls, including a potted plant, he reportedly stated. At this point, he began to worry, so he called for an ambulance, he reportedly told the officer. The woman was secured in a stretcher and was bleeding from the eyes, nose, and mouth, while crying. After calming her down, she told police that the two were out to dinner with some of his coworkers and he didn’t seem to be having a very good time, often leaving the table or going outside. They left in a hurry later and he allegedly threw her into the street. She said there were witnesses and a cab driver yelled at them to get out of the street. Upon arriving home, he allegedly struck her in the face with a potted plant. She went to leave the apartment but collapsed in the doorway where EMTs found her. The woman was transported to Beth Israel. Knox was arrested and charged. Hospital personnel later reported that she had a blow out fracture to the interior left eye.

Luis Castro-Tacuri, 28, of Hopedale, was arrested at 8:29 a.m. on Feb. 20, and charged with unlicensed operation. While on Beverly Road, an officer noticed a red Ford truck with a commercial plate but no commercial markings on the side of the vehicle. The officer turned around and saw a magnetic sign on the tailgate but no owner markings on the doors. The truck was pulled over. The operator, Castro-Tacuri, reportedly gave the officer a credit card when asked for a license. He allegedly then presented a John Smith Soccer Center ID with the name “Luis Castro.” A check of the RMV revealed his full name and that his privileges were revoked. Castro-Tacuri was arrested. The owner of the truck was also cited for improperly displaying owner markings on a commercial vehicle and unlicensed operation.

Taylor Diamond, 23, of Brookline, was arrested at 12:57 a.m. on Feb. 23, on a warrant. He was also cited for failure to inspect a motor vehicle, no license in possession, and possession of under 1 ounce of marijuana. Officers on Harvard Street observed a red Honda Accord traveling north and ran a check of the vehicle. The system revealed that it failed inspection in October 2013. The car was stopped at the intersection of Stearns Road. Diamond allegedly wasn’t in possession of his license but he gave his information to one of the officers who ran a check and found that there was a warrant out for his arrest from Brighton District Court for failure to appear on Jan. 22, on an operating after suspension. Dispatch confirmed the warrant and he was arrested. The officers reportedly smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the car and Diamond allegedly opened his backpack and revealed marijuana inside. The vehicle was released to a relative and Diamond was taken into custody.

Luke Goroshko, 32, of Medford, was arrested at 2:27 p.m. on Feb. 24, and charged with operating with a suspended license. He was also cited for expired inspection sticker and operating after suspension. An officer monitoring traffic on Harvard Street saw a green Jeep Wrangler operating with an expired inspection sticker – November 2013 – and began to follow the vehicle. The Jeep was stopped at the intersection with Green Street. When asked for a license and registration, the driver, Goroshko reportedly handed the items to the officer but gave him a warning about the license. A check, according to the report, yielded suspended privileges on Nov. 26, 2013, for three surchargeable events. Goroshko was then arrested. Later, the passenger of the Jeep was allowed to take the vehicle from the scene.
