COMMUNITIES OF COLOR LEADERSHIP GROUP
ENDORSE MARTY WALSH FOR MAYOR OF BOSTON

Today, a diverse group of civic leaders from communities of color have come together to unanimously endorse State Representative Martin Walsh in the race to become Mayor of Boston.  The group includes representatives from ¿Oíste?, Chinese Progressive Political Action, and Right to the City Vote!

“I’m deeply honored to receive this endorsement today. I’m inspired by the work of these community organizations,” said Rep. Walsh. “As Mayor, I will partner with these groups and civic leaders to establish Boston as a model city for inclusion and collaboration, and to ensure that we have strong schools, safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, and strong supports for residents and families throughout Boston.”

The group stated their reasons for endorsing Walsh:

Because we believe in his record as a champion of all working people, and in his commitment to be a mayor who is willing to take a strong stand against injustice and inequity on behalf of all of the city's residents.

We believe in Marty’s commitment to make not only his cabinet but also other levels of management in city government reflect the diversity of the city.

We believe in Marty’s commitment to provide job access to all Boston residents, as seen is his record of establishing the Building Pathways program to link women and communities of color to apprenticeships in the building trades.

We believe in Marty’s commitment to stabilize working class neighborhoods and communities of color with an emphasis on affordable housing that focuses on the needs and median income of each neighborhood, while increasing the housing stock overall.

We believe in Marty’s leadership role around alternatives to incarceration, and to a comprehensive view of public safety as it is defined by our communities.

We believe in Marty’s leadership and commitment to quality schools and learning environments for all of the city’s children, regardless of neighborhood or socioeconomic status, to bridge the opportunity and achievement gaps that have plagued our city.
