Children's Book Week

Pinwheel Books celebrates Children' Book Week, showcasing new kids books with readers and celebrating reading. Read here to learn more about local Children's Book Week events.

Children's Book Week (http://www.bookweekonline.com/) kicked off this past Monday, and it's already been so much fun! Local libraries are getting in the spirit (check online for what your library is planning), and as always, we are just so excited to see children's books getting the love they deserve. This is an opportunity to publishers to once showcase new work with their readers, and merely celebrate reading. The official website has a great compilation of events, and here are some that you can enjoy anywhere:All Over: Sylvan Dell Publishing: For Children’s Book Week, Sylvan Dell will be offering all 70 of their titles’eBooks free on their website for families, educators, and students to read and explore! Sylvan Dell authors will also be appearing at events nationwide all week long! See listings here.

The Blue Bunny Bookstore will be holding a celebration in honor of Children’s Book Week with special guest Tony Abbott, award-winning author of the Secrets of Droon fantasy series, and more more than 75 other titles for kids. To help us celebrate Children’s Book Week, children are invited to submit a drawing or review of their favorite children’s book to The Blue Bunny. All submissions will be displayed at the store during the week, and kids will be recognized for their contributions by our guest, Tony Abbott.

Over 200 book blogs will each host a book giveaway in celebration of Children's Book Week!

One of the biggest events of Children's Book Week is the Children's Choice Awards, held in NYC! This is the only kids-chosen book awards of its kind. So encourage your children to read the latest books, think critically about them (what is it about this book that you love so much?) and then, have them engage in this rewarding experience.  Famed kidslit storyteller Jarrett J. Krosoczka, hosted the event this year. And apparently, lots of kids got out there and submitted their picks, because this was the most votes they have ever received! For the list of winners, check out the article on Publishers Weekly here: http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/childrens/childrens-industry-news/article/51853-kinney-selznick-win-top-prizes-at-children-s-choice-awards.html

These children's book events are a wonderful way to have writers and illustrators celebrate with their audience - the kids!

Recognizing the achievements in both the readers, and the creators of these stories, encourages us all to keep reading, keep imagining, and keep telling great stories. We hope you do something special to celebrate!
